Protesters Demand Expulsion and Arrest of BNP Adviser Fazlur Rahman

Dhaka, August 25, 2025 – A group of protesters staged a sit-in outside the Segunbagicha residence of BNP Chairperson’s adviser Fazlur Rahman on Monday, demanding his expulsion from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and his arrest. The demonstrators, under the banner of ‘Sadharan Chhatra-Chhatri’ (General Students), accused Rahman of making "derogatory and misleading remarks" about the July Uprising.

The protest began in the morning, with participants blocking the street in front of Rahman’s home and chanting slogans calling for punitive action against him. The demonstration follows BNP’s issuance of a show-cause notice to Rahman on Sunday, addressing his repeated “offensive” comments about the July-August mass uprising.

Law enforcement was deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents. Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruk confirmed that police were on alert to ensure the situation remained under control. BNP’s show-cause notice, issued to Rahman as a member of its Chairperson’s Advisory Council, condemned his remarks as “bizarre and indecent.” The party has given him 24 hours to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
