On August 10, 2025, AKM Farid Uddin, a former joint convener of Lakshmipur Jubo Dal, was arrested during a joint forces operation in Lakshmipur with a single-barrel gun and 105,000 taka in cash. The operation took place in the Palerhat area of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, where Farid resides. Following his arrest, he was expelled from the Jubo Dal by the central committee on the same day for violating party discipline.
However, a Facebook status posted from Farid’s account on Monday, August 18, 2025, at around 6 PM has sparked widespread discussion. The post read, “I’m a man of a certain stature, and they framed me with a weapon to match my status—like a foreign pistol, shotgun, or other arms. They ruined my reputation with an outdated weapon.” The post began with a call to “share it widely” and was later edited. An hour later, a video link of a protest march in Palerhat Bazaar demanding Farid’s release was also shared from his account.
Police reports indicate that Farid faces multiple charges, including murder and violations of the Arms Act. The joint forces acted on a tip-off regarding his possession of arms, leading to his arrest. The incident has fueled debates about how a prisoner could access social media, with authorities denying any possibility of phone use in custody.
