Rumor of 'Bomb Explosion' Spreads in Chittagong Port at Midnight

Chittagong, August 11, 2025 – A rumor claiming a bomb explosion in the Chittagong Port area has gone viral on social media, with several videos circulating online. Some users on Facebook described it as a bomb blast, while others speculated it was a cylinder explosion. However, the Fire Service has confirmed that no such incident occurred in the port area.

Videos that emerged late on Sunday night (August 10) show a building engulfed in flames, accompanied by screams and chaos in the darkness. These clips were purportedly from the Chittagong Port vicinity.

According to sources from the Chittagong Fire Service Control Room, speaking to Dhaka Post, there is no report of any explosion in the port area.

Many Facebook users claimed a bomb explosion in the Chittagong Port residential area and shared the videos. However, locals have denied any such event taking place.

A Facebook page named "Satyabarta" posted a video claiming a terrifying explosion near the Chittagong Port area. The post lacked details on the location or time of the alleged incident and has been shared by 27 users.

In another post, an account named Md. Anisur Rahman Ayan stated: "Terrifying explosion in Chittagong Port residential building right now. Fear of many casualties. Everyone, come to Chittagong Medical. Blood is urgently needed for the injured."

Around 1:30 AM, an account named Muhammad Golam Rahman Arbi claimed: "A terrifying explosion has occurred around Chittagong Port." Comments on the post inquired about the location and time, but no specific information was provided.

When contacted about the explosion, Muhammad Golam Rahman Arbi said he does not know the exact area in the port where it happened. He resides in the Agrabad area of Chittagong and mentioned that the video was shared by his acquaintances.

Authorities urge the public to verify information before sharing to prevent panic from unconfirmed rumors.
