In a shocking incident, a stepfather allegedly threw his 6-year-old stepson into a pond with the intent to kill him on Saturday (August 9, 2025) around 9 PM in the Chhararpar area of Shimulbari Union, Fulbari Upazila. The child, Tasim (6), was rescued alive by a passerby who spotted him struggling in the pond under the light of an autorickshaw’s headlamp. News of the incident drew hundreds of curious locals to the scene.
Tasim, son of the late Tara Mia from Sakher Bazar in Lalmonirhat district, revealed that after his father’s death, he lived with his mother, Bobita Begum, and elder brother, Biplob. About 6-7 months ago, his mother married Murad Hossain, son of Akbar Ali from Saptana in Lalmonirhat Sadar. Since the marriage, Tasim had been living with his mother at Murad’s home.
Local residents stated that if the child had not been spotted immediately, he might not have survived. They demanded severe punishment for such a cruel act. Fulbari Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahim confirmed that Murad Hossain was arrested by Lalmonirhat police. A case is being prepared against him based on a complaint filed by Azipur Islam. Tasim’s mother, brother, grandmother, and other family members are currently at the police station.
