Turkey’s Foreign Minister Calls for Collective Muslim World Action for Palestinians

On Monday, August 25, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized the need for unified action by the Muslim world to support the Palestinian people. Speaking at a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Fidan stated, “What the Palestinian people need is our collective action.”

He underscored the importance of “coordinated pressure” to compel Israel toward a lasting solution. According to Anadolu Agency, the OIC meeting focused on addressing Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza, aiming to coordinate the positions and responses of member states.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip has reached approximately 63,000, with over 150,000 people injured. Many remain trapped under rubble. Since the breakdown of a ceasefire earlier this year, Israel launched a separate aid distribution initiative through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation on May 27, bypassing the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations. This move, supported by the United States, has been widely rejected by the global aid community. Israeli forces have continued to fire on Palestinians gathered near food distribution centers, resulting in hundreds of deaths. In November last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the region.
