In a tragic incident stemming from a family dispute, a woman tied her three children to herself and jumped into a canal, leading to their deaths. The bodies of the woman and her children were later recovered, bound together.
According to a report by Indian news outlet NDTV, the incident occurred in Risaura village, Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The deceased have been identified as Reena and her three children, Himanshu (9), Anshi (5), and Prince (3).
Police stated that on Friday night, Reena had an argument with her husband, Akhilesh, over family matters. Without informing her husband, she left the house with her children. On Saturday morning, her in-laws began searching for them. Eventually, Reena’s clothes, bangles, bracelet, sandals, and other belongings were found near a canal. After informing the police, a search operation involving divers was launched.
Banda’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Shiv Raj, said, “We reduced the canal’s water level and deployed divers. After 5-6 hours, the bodies of the woman and her three children were recovered from the canal. They were tied together with cloth. Preliminary findings suggest that, following the dispute with her husband, she jumped into the canal with her children that night.”
Police have taken Akhilesh into custody for questioning, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
