Writ Filed in High Court to Take Action Against White Stone Looters

A writ petition concerning the looting of white stones from the Bholaganj tourism spot in Sylhet’s Companyganj Upazila was presented for hearing on Thursday. The High Court Division Bench, comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Syed Zahed Monsur, set next Sunday as the date for the hearing.

The petition was presented in court by Supreme Court lawyer Mir AKM Nurunnabi. The writ seeks a rule questioning why the inaction of relevant government officials in taking action against those responsible for looting white stones from Bholaganj should not be declared illegal.

Due to the recent inaction of the administration and rampant looting by influential individuals, the white stone quarries of Sylhet, including the picturesque Bholaganj, are on the verge of losing their natural beauty.
