The sudden operation left many detainees in shock, with some attempting to escape by climbing onto rooftops, hiding under tables, or seeking refuge in nearby business premises. However, all were apprehended.
Basri Othman, Director of the Immigration Department’s Enforcement Division, stated that the raid, named "Op Belanja," was carried out from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM following three weeks of public complaints about foreigners gathering in the area for social activities. “Surprisingly, our officers discovered an online gambling setup equipped with a CCTV monitoring system. A total of 2,445 individuals, including 1,600 foreigners and 845 Malaysian citizens, were screened during the operation, which involved 106 government officers. The 770 foreigners were detained for various immigration offenses, including overstaying, lacking valid identification documents, and possessing unrecognized passes.
The detainees included 377 Bangladeshi men, 235 Myanmar men, 72 Nepalese men, 58 Indian men, 17 Indonesian men, 2 Indonesian women, and 9 individuals (3 men and 6 women) from other countries. Their ages range from 21 to 65. The detained individuals were initially taken to the Immigration Department in Putrajaya for screening before being transferred to the Bukit Jalil and Lenggeng Immigration Depots for further investigation.
Basri urged the public and employers not to harbor undocumented migrants, warning that legal action could be taken against those who do
