Army Raid on KNA Training Base in Bandarban, Training Equipment Seized

The Bangladesh Army conducted a month-long operation in the remote areas of Ruma, Bandarban, targeting secret hideouts of the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA). The operation, which ran from July 25 to August 26, 2025, resulted in the destruction of a KNA training base and the recovery of various training equipment, according to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Wednesday.

The ISPR statement detailed that the army identified a KNA training camp in the Rengtelang hill area near the Myanmar border in Ruma Upazila. Although no individuals were found at the site, a significant amount of training equipment was recovered, including wooden rifles, sniper rifle sights, military belts, cartridge belts, military uniforms, boots, blankets, walkie-talkie chargers, solar panels, rations, and other items. The army also took control of the training camp’s facilities, including its training ground, firing range, trenches, and various tactical installations.

The statement emphasized that the Bangladesh Army is relentlessly working to ensure the safety of lives and property of all communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. It affirmed that strict military operations against armed groups will continue in the future.
The Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), with its armed wing KNA, emerged in 2022 and has been active in the remote, Bawm-inhabited areas of Ruma, Rowangchhari, and Thanchi Upazilas in Bandarban, as well as the Raingkhyong reserved forest in Bilaichhari Upazila, Rangamati. The KNF is accused of providing military training to Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiyya, a militant group from the plains, in the remote hills. Since October 2022, joint operations have led to the arrest of several militants and KNF members. In early April 2024, KNF members carried out bank robberies and looted police weapons in Ruma and Thanchi. Ongoing operations by security forces have significantly curtailed KNF’s activities.
