Beijing Hosts Grand Military Parade with Xi, Putin, and Kim, Showcasing New Weapons

On Wednesday, Beijing witnessed a historic moment as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appeared together for the first time at a grand military parade. The event, marking the formal surrender of Japan in World War II, was broadcast by China’s state-owned media, CGTN, which released images of the three leaders.

The parade, held in China’s capital, was a display of military might, with Xi, Putin, and Kim in attendance. This marks the first time the leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea have gathered together for such an event. During the parade, Xi and Kim were seen seated side by side, engaging in conversation. Kim’s last visit to China was in 2019, making this a significant diplomatic moment.

China’s State Council published a list of 26 invited world leaders, including Vietnam’s President Luong Cuong, Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic, and Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel. Other notable attendees included Myanmar’s acting President Min Aung Hlaing, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico. However, the BBC could not confirm whether all invited leaders attended the event. In his opening speech, President Xi Jinping declared that “invincible China” cannot be intimidated. The military parade showcased an array of advanced weaponry, including laser weapons, nuclear ballistic missiles, and large underwater drones, highlighting China’s growing military capabilities.
