A case has been filed against the in-charge of Shayestaganj Railway Outpost in Habiganj, along with six others, for allegedly harassing a passenger at a railway station. The case was lodged under the Speedy Trial Act on Thursday afternoon by Mashhiur Rahman Jewel, a resident of Bara Bahula village in the suburbs, who works as a server at the Habiganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

Judge Md. Kamrul Hasan of the Speedy Trial Court accepted the case and directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shayestaganj Police Station to register it as an FIR.

The accused include Shayestaganj Railway Outpost In-Charge SI Sazidul Islam Sohag, Naik Ariful, Constable Robi Das, TSI Shahjalal, and residents Raju Miya and Shah Alam from Mahlul Sunam village in Shayestaganj municipality, along with Palash Miya from the Railway Colony area. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate M.A. Majid, confirmed the matter, stating that the court accepted the case and instructed the Shayestaganj Police Station OC to register it as an FIR. He expressed hope that this would help stop the harassment of railway passengers, emphasizing that no one is above the law, and the law applies equally to all. According to the case details, on the night of August 19, Mashhiur Rahman Jewel went to Shayestaganj Railway Station to board a train to Dhaka. The Dhaka-bound Upaban Express was scheduled to arrive at 1 a.m. but was delayed. While waiting on Platform 2, Jewel was allegedly harassed by a group of individuals who snatched his wallet and mobile phone. When he began shouting, railway police took him to their outpost and allegedly assaulted him. They also reportedly attempted to frame him with drugs.
