Police have filed a case following the attack and vandalism at the Darbar Sharif of Nurul Haque, alias ‘Nural Pagla,’ in Goaland, Rajbari. The case names 3,000 to 3,500 unidentified individuals as accused.
The case was filed in the early hours of Saturday (September 6) by Sub-Inspector Md. Selim Molla of Goaland Ghat Police Station. The charges include attacking police, obstructing government duties, and destroying public property. The filing of the case was confirmed by Mohammad Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Goaland Ghat Police Station.
According to police sources, on Friday, after Jumu’ah prayers, a group under the banner of the ‘Iman Aqida Protection Committee’ held a pre-announced protest at the Muktiyoddha Shahid Fakir Mahiuddin Ansar Club. After speeches, the agitated crowd attempted to march toward the Darbar Sharif but was stopped by local administration and police. During this confrontation, the mob vandalized the official vehicle of the Goaland Upazila Executive Officer, as well as vehicles belonging to the Additional Superintendent of Police and the OC of Goaland Ghat Police Station.
The mob also assaulted two members of the administration and injured others by throwing stones. Subsequently, they broke into Nural Pagla’s residence and the Darbar Sharif, vandalizing and setting fire to the premises. At one point, the mob exhumed the body of Nurul Haque, alias Nural Pagla, from his grave and burned it at the Padma Mor area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.
OC Mohammad Rakibul Islam stated, “A case has been filed regarding the attack on police at ‘Nural Pagla’s’ Darbar. Between 3,000 and 3,500 individuals have been named as accused. Further details will be provided later.”
