IU Chhatra Dal Protests, Demands Resignation of Vice-Chancellors of Three Universities

The Islamic University (IU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal staged a protest march in response to attacks on students by locals at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and Chittagong University (CU), as well as an attack on Chhatra Dal members at Rajshahi University (RU). During the protest, Chhatra Dal leaders demanded that the perpetrators of these attacks be identified and punished, and called for the resignation of the vice-chancellors of the three universities.

The protest march began around 1:30 PM on Monday (September 1) from the university’s faculty building. The procession circled various campus roads and concluded at the administration building premises.

During the march, participants were heard chanting slogans such as: “Why the attack in CU? Interim government, we demand answers!” “Why the attack in BAU? Interim government, we demand answers!” “Why the attack in RU? Administration, we demand answers!” “Light the fire, ignite the flame!” “Destroy the dens of terrorists!” “Education and terrorism cannot coexist!” “Democracy is not dead, stay vigilant, Bangladesh!” “Chhatra Dal’s pledge: a safe campus!” “Rajakars under lungis, autocrats own the lungis!” “Autocrats and Rajakars are one and the same!” Chhatra Dal leaders stated, “The brutal attacks on university students reflect the broader situation in Bangladesh. We strongly demand that those involved in the attacks on students be brought to justice. We urge the interim government: if you cannot ensure the safety of the people, step down.” IU Chhatra Dal’s Member Secretary Mithun said, “We strongly condemn and protest the attacks on students. Those responsible for these incidents must be swiftly brought to justice, and the safety of students across all campuses must be ensured.”
IU Chhatra Dal Convener Sahed Ahmed added, “Students have faced brutal attacks in universities, and the university authorities have failed to ensure their safety. We demand the resignation of the vice-chancellors of the three universities. We also strongly condemn the mob activities carried out under the guise of ‘general students’ by covert organizations.”
