A one-member judicial inquiry committee is being formed to investigate the attack on Nurul Haq Nur, President of Gono Odhikar Parishad and a prominent figure in the July Mass Uprising. A gazette notification regarding this will be issued tomorrow, Wednesday.
On Tuesday (September 2) night, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced this during a briefing at the gate of Jamuna, the state guest house. Earlier in the evening, Maria Akter, Nurul Haq Nur’s wife, along with Rashed Khan, General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Hasan Al Mamun, Senior Joint General Secretary, met with the Chief Adviser at Jamuna.
Shafiqul Alam stated that the Chief Adviser spoke with Maria Akter and two of Nur’s associates, expressing deep regret over the attack and directing that Nur be sent abroad for advanced medical treatment. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate.
The Press Secretary added that during the meeting, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul announced that a one-member committee, led by Justice Ali Reza, is being formed to investigate the attack. The gazette notification for this will be published by tomorrow, and the committee is expected to complete its investigation within 15 days.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing reported that Maria Akter broke down in tears while discussing Nurul Haq Nur’s condition. She revealed that Nur has suffered brain hemorrhage, a broken nose, and injuries to his jaw and spine. She emphasized the need to send Nur abroad for proper medical treatment.

During the meeting, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Environment Adviser Rizwana Hasan, and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan were present.

On August 29, a clash occurred between activists of Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad in Dhaka’s Ramna area at Bijoynagar. During the incident, Nurul Haq Nur, Rashed Khan, and several other activists were injured. Nur was admitted to the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition. However, on Monday afternoon, due to an improvement in his condition, he was shifted to a cabin.
