Nabi Matches Shakib’s Record in Afghanistan’s Victory Over Pakistan

Afghanistan’s veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has become the second Afghan cricketer to reach the milestone of 100 wickets in international T20 cricket. At the age of 40 years and 245 days, Nabi continues to set new benchmarks, cementing his status as Afghanistan’s first cricketing superstar.

In a tri-nation series match in Sharjah, Nabi played a pivotal role in Afghanistan’s 18-run victory over Pakistan, claiming 2 wickets for 20 runs. This performance helped him achieve the 100-wicket milestone in T20 internationals, making him the second Afghan after Rashid Khan to do so. Rashid, the leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 167 wickets, was the first Afghan to reach this feat.

Nabi has now joined an elite club, becoming the second cricketer after Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to amass over 2,000 runs and 100 wickets in T20 internationals. Nabi has scored 2,246 runs in the format, while Shakib, who achieved this milestone in 2022, has 2,551 runs and 149 wickets. Although Shakib has retired from T20Is, his overall T20 record remains superior, with 503 wickets compared to Nabi’s 387 in recognized T20 matches. Shakib also holds a unique record as the only cricketer with 7,000 runs and 500 wickets in recognized T20s. If the benchmark is lowered to 5,000 runs and 500 wickets, Shakib is joined only by West Indian Dwayne Bravo (6,970 runs and 631 wickets). Nabi, with 6,405 runs in recognized T20s, is still performing at an elite level and is likely to add more milestones to his illustrious career.
