Narayanganj Court Sentences One to Death, 17 to Life for 2012 Murder

Narayanganj, September 4, 2025: A Narayanganj court on Thursday sentenced one man to death and 17 others to life imprisonment for the murder of a young man in 2012, stemming from a dispute over drug sales. The verdict was delivered by Narayanganj District and Session Judge Mominul Islam.

The death row convict, identified as Tawlada alias Zahirul, 48, son of Afsar Uddin, was found guilty of stabbing Nazrul Islam Babu to death. The 17 individuals sentenced to life include Mizan, 35, Md Ali, 38, Abdul Latif, 65, Hanif, 36, Sohel, 50, Sabuj, 35, Milon, 41, Selim, 43, Golzar, 39, Leda Faruk, 40, Russel, 40, Momen, 38, Saddam, Shahin, 39, Ruhul Amin, 38, Abul, 38, and Pandit, 43.

According to the prosecution, Nazrul Islam Babu, son of Jalal Mia from Masimpur in Rupganj upazila, was killed on May 31, 2012, for protesting against drug sales in the area. Of the convicts, only Md Ali was present in court, while the others were tried in absentia. A case was filed following the incident, leading to Thursday’s verdict.
