Youth Jumps into River to Evade Arrest, Body Recovered in Patuakhali

Patuakhali, September 3, 2025: Locals recovered the body of Tuhin Hawladar (30) from beneath the Lohalia Bridge in Patuakhali. To evade arrest by the Detective Branch (DB) police, Tuhin jumped into the Lohalia River around 11 PM on September 2. His body was found floating near the bridge at around 4 AM on Wednesday, September 3.

Tuhin was a resident of Town Jainkathi in Ward No. 1 of Patuakhali Municipality, son of Md. Kalam Hawladar. According to locals, on Tuesday night, DB police conducted an operation in the dockyard area near the Lohalia Bridge. Sensing the police presence, Tuhin, along with two others, Kasai Al-Amin and Sidi Al-Amin, jumped into the river. While Kasai Al-Amin and Sidi Al-Amin managed to swim to the other side, Tuhin went missing. His body was recovered approximately 24 hours later.

Tuhin leaves behind his wife, Sukhi Aktar, a five-year-old daughter, Jannatul Ferdous, and a two-month-old son, Abu Taher. Tuhin’s cousin, Md. Miraj, stated, “I heard that DB police were in the area on Monday night and chased Tuhin, Kasai Al-Amin, and Sidi Al-Amin. While Kasai Al-Amin managed to reach the other side, Tuhin couldn’t. We found his body in the river today.” When contacted, Inspector Jasim Uddin of the Patuakhali District Detective Branch clarified that while a DB team is always on patrol for drug-related activities, no operation was conducted in that area on the night in question.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station, Md. Imtiaz Ahmed, confirmed that the body was recovered after receiving information from locals and has been sent for autopsy. The police, along with the CID’s Crime Scene Unit, are investigating to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
