BGB-BSF Facilitate Exchange of Citizens at Birali Border

Dinajpur, May 02, 2025 : In a flag meeting held at the Birali border in Dinajpur, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over two Bangladeshi citizens to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). In exchange, BGB handed over two Indian citizens to Indian authorities.

The exchange took place following a commander-level meeting between BGB and BSF on Friday (May 1) after 8 PM, resolving the issue. The two Bangladeshi citizens, identified as Md. Enamul Haque and his son Md. Masud, were brought to the BGB camp after the handover.
The Indian citizens, Abhinath Tudu and Philip Soren, were taken back by the BSF following the flag meeting.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, BSF detained two Bangladeshi farmers from the Karuliyapara border area in Dharmapur Union of Birali Upazila. In retaliation, local villagers detained two Indian citizens who were in the no-man’s-land area.
According to local sources, Enamul Haque and his son Masud were working on threshing paddy near the border’s 320 main pillar when BSF personnel detained them. In response, villagers detained Abhinath Tudu and Philip Soren and handed them over to BGB.
Confirming the incident, Dharmapur Union Chairman Nur Islam stated that the villagers detained the two Indian citizens in protest of the BSF’s detention of the Bangladeshi farmers.
This is not the first such incident in the area. On January 24 this year, residents of Birali detained an Indian farmer in response to the detention of a Bangladeshi teenager by BSF in the same border area.
