Dhaka, May 19, 2025: The Janata Party Bangladesh (JPB) has called on the interim government to take a firm stance against India's alleged illegal push-in of individuals and trade blockades, demanding the suspension of transit facilities provided to India and the push-in of Awami League politicians accused of crimes who are reportedly sheltered in India.
The demands were raised during a human chain organized by JPB in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday (May 19) morning, protesting India's policies.
Advocate Mohsin Rashid, president of the Muslim League, said, "The Indian High Commissioner must be summoned immediately to lodge a strong protest. Illegal Indian workers in Bangladesh should be pushed back."
JPB's Executive Chairman Golam Sarwar Milon stated, "The time has come to stop India's cruel push-in tactics. Bangladesh is a strong state, not a vassal of anyone. We respect the friendship, language, and culture of the Indian people but despise their hegemonic politics."
JPB General Secretary Shawkat Mahmud alleged that India is pushing in Bengali-speaking individuals and Rohingya refugees. He further claimed, "India is trying to destabilize Bangladesh by blocking land exports. While the previous Awami League government granted India transit and port usage facilities to transport goods to its Seven Sisters states via Kolkata, these privileges must be suspended immediately."
The event also featured speeches by JPB advisor and former MP Shah Md. Abu Zafar, Major (Retd.) Mujib, Dr. Farhat Hossain, Awal Thakur, Advocate Waliur Rahman Khan, MS Yusuf, Green Party Chairman Mozammel Haque, and others. The program was moderated by JPB Joint General Secretary Advocate Rafiqul Islam Raja.
Notably, JPB was launched as a political party on April 25 with the slogan "We will build a just nation." The party is chaired by actor Elias Kanchan, with Shawkat Mahmud as its general secretary.
