02 June 2025 : In a distressing incident in Mithamain, Kishoreganj, an eight-year-old child was allegedly subjected to an attempted rape. The incident occurred on Sunday (June 1, 2025) afternoon at a hotel in Gopdighi Bazar, Gopdighi Union. The child is currently receiving treatment at Mithamain Sadar Hospital.
According to local sources, a hotel shopkeeper named Jalil Mia lured the child into his shop under the pretense of offering samosas. He then attempted to assault the child. When the child began to scream, Jalil Mia fled the scene. The child later informed her parents about the incident, who subsequently reported it to the police, prompting a visit to the site by law enforcement.
The accused, Jalil Mia, is a father of three and the son of Khurshid Mia from Saralia Hat in the same union. In protest of the incident, local villagers held a procession on Sunday evening demanding justice for the accused. Jalil Mia is currently absconding.
Mithamain Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Kabir stated that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the complaint. Necessary legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation.
