Finance Adviser to Present 2025-26 Budget on Monday

Dhaka, June 1, 2025: The proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 will be presented to the nation by the interim government’s Finance Adviser, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, on Monday (June 2) at 3:00 PM.

The budget speech will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar. The government has requested private television channels and radio stations to broadcast the speech simultaneously using BTV’s feed.

According to relevant sources, the budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year is expected to be approximately BDT 7.9 trillion, making it one of the largest budgets in the country’s history. The revenue collection target is likely to be set at BDT 5.64 trillion, with BDT 4.99 trillion expected from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and BDT 19 billion from non-NBR sources. Additionally, non-tax revenue collection is projected to reach around BDT 46 billion.
The budget may allocate BDT 4.86 trillion for non-development expenditure, while the Annual Development Programme (ADP) is expected to be sized at BDT 2.3 trillion. The proposed budget is likely to have a deficit of approximately BDT 2.26 trillion. To address this deficit, the government plans to borrow BDT 1.21 trillion from domestic sources and BDT 1.05 trillion from foreign loans.
Earlier, on May 29, a government statement indicated that the budget speech would be broadcast at 4:00 PM on June 2. However, a subsequent update confirmed the new timing of 3:00 PM on Monday. This budget is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s economic direction and development plans.
