Increased Rush of Commuters at Daulatdia Ghat as People Return to Work Post-Eid

Rajbari, June 13, 2025 : After the Eid holidays, people have started returning to their workplaces, leading to a significant increase in commuter traffic at Daulatdia Ghat in Rajbari. While road travel remains an option, trains are witnessing a higher influx of passengers compared to buses.

Reports indicate that four intercity trains and one mail train operate regularly through Rajbari, connecting Dhaka with various parts of the country. Commuters from southern and southwestern districts are arriving at Daulatdia Ghat via trains, buses, and three-wheelers, crossing the Padma River by launches and ferries to reach Dhaka and its surrounding areas. This has resulted in a notable surge in activity at the ghat.
On Friday, June 13, from 12 PM to 5:30 PM, observations at Daulatdia’s launch and ferry ghats revealed a steady flow of passengers arriving from southern and southwestern districts on long-distance buses and other vehicles. After crossing the Padma River via launches, commuters reach Paturia Ghat. Similarly, vehicles are also crossing the river using ferries, contributing to increased traffic at both ghats.
To manage the congestion, District Traffic Police Inspector Tarak Pal and his team are working diligently to ensure smooth operations. “Post-Eid, people from the southwestern regions are returning to Dhaka and nearby areas. Our traffic police team is actively managing the situation to ensure hassle-free travel for commuters,” Pal stated.
Among the travelers was Abul Kalam from Faridpur Sadar Upazila, who works at a private organization in Ashulia, Savar. He had visited his village with his wife and children to celebrate Eid with family. On Friday at 11 AM, Kalam and his family crossed the river on the MV Mostafa launch to return to his workplace. “The Eid holidays are over, and my office reopens on Saturday. So, I’m heading back to my workplace today,” he said.
Currently, 20 launches are operational on the Daulatdia-Paturia route to facilitate passenger movement. According to Salauddin Ahmed, Assistant Deputy General Manager (Commerce) at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office, “With the Eid holidays nearing their end, there has been a slight increase in passenger and vehicle traffic since Friday morning. However, commuters are crossing the river without any significant difficulties.”
