International Desk, June 10, 2025 : The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to receive the indigenously developed HAL Te jas Mk1A fighter jets by the end of this month, following a delay of over a year. According to a report by India Today, these advanced jets will soon join the IAF’s fleet.
The report states that India has decided to replace its aging MiG-21 and Jaguar fighter jets with domestically produced Tejas aircraft. This decision is driven by the IAF’s current strength of only 31 squadrons, against the required 42 squadrons. The IAF has already inducted 40 Tejas jets, and it is now preparing to receive the advanced Mk1A variant.
The Tejas Mk1A incorporates Israeli technology, including the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar developed by ELTA, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries. Additionally, the jets will feature electronic warfare systems, modern helmet-mounted sights by Elbit, and Rafael’s radar-guided Derby missiles. The report claims that these upgrades bring the Tejas Mk1A closer to Western standards.
