Chittagong, June 11, 2025: The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has issued a show-cause notice to its central committee member, Jobairul Alam Manik, over his controversial claim of being the “biggest mafia” in Bangladesh. The notice, signed by NCP’s Joint Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat, was published on the party’s official Facebook page on Tuesday night.
The show-cause notice describes Manik’s statement as objectionable and contrary to party discipline, stating that it has tarnished the NCP’s public image and portrayed the party negatively. Manik has been directed to submit a written explanation within three days to the head of the central disciplinary committee, Abdullah Al-Amin, justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
The controversy stems from a speech Manik delivered on Monday (June 9) during an Eid reunion event organized by the NCP at a community center in Anowara Upazila, Chittagong. In his speech, he said, “We have successfully led the July uprising. No one could provide such leadership in the past 16-17 years. This is a political revolution. If anyone says students have completed their task and should return to campus, we say we have ousted a mafia of 16 years. If someone tries to become a mafia again, we will tell them, if there is a big mafia in Bangladesh now, it is us. There is no bigger mafia than us.”
The speech, which was live-streamed on Facebook, went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism. In response, the NCP issued the show-cause notice to address the controversy.
Manik later claimed his statement was misrepresented. He clarified, “I said we have driven out a big mafia like Sheikh Hasina. If anyone tries to steal votes again, the July movement activists will return as the biggest mafia.”
The NCP’s move has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some have praised the party’s effort to maintain discipline, others see it as an indication of internal conflicts within the Party.
