Protests Erupt Over 18th Teacher Registration Exam Results, Police Disperse Crowd with Baton Charge

Widespread discontent and allegations of irregularities have sparked protests across the country following the release of the 18th Teacher Registration Exam results. On Sunday, hundreds of job aspirants gathered outside the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) office, demanding the cancellation of the results and a fresh evaluation. The protest turned chaotic when police resorted to a baton charge to disperse the crowd.

Eyewitnesses reported that the demonstration began around 12 PM. Protesters called for the annulment of the 18th Teacher Registration results, a re-evaluation of the process, and certification for candidates who failed the viva voce despite performing well.

The final results, announced on June 4, declared 60,521 candidates successful. A revised result on June 23 added 113 more successful candidates. NTRCA stated that technical errors had initially excluded some results from the March 23, 2025, exam, which were later rectified. However, protesters allege significant discrepancies and unfair practices in the results. They claim that many candidates who performed well in the viva were marked as failed. Notably, board-wise results showed stark inconsistencies—some boards passed only 1-3 out of 30 candidates, while others passed up to 29, raising serious concerns about transparency and fairness.

Aggrieved candidates accused examiners of discriminatory behavior. Fatima Begum, a candidate, expressed her frustration, stating, “I gave correct answers in the viva, yet I was failed. This is unjust.” Similar complaints were echoed by Priyanka from Chandpur and Mahmuda Begum from Brahmanbaria, who demanded a re-evaluation to recognize deserving candidates.

Earlier, a delegation of protesters met with the Education Ministry’s advisory office, where an assistant secretary to the NTRCA’s chief advisor listened to their concerns and promised coordination with relevant authorities. However, the protesters, dissatisfied with the assurance, vowed to continue their agitation until the results are reconsidered.

The 18th Teacher Registration Exam saw nearly 1.9 million applicants. Of them, 83,865 passed the written exam, and 81,209 appeared for the viva. Ultimately, 60,634 candidates were declared successful. The NTRCA is currently verifying vacant positions in non-government institutions, with successful candidates set to receive appointment recommendations.
The protests underscore growing concerns over the integrity of the teacher registration process, leaving aspirants frustrated and demanding accountability.
