Child Goes Missing After Saying ‘Ma, I’m Hungry,’ Body Found Two Days Later

‘মা, ক্ষুধা পেয়েছে’ বলে হারিয়ে যায় শিশু, দুই দিন পর লাশ উদ্ধার

Ma, I’m hungry, I want rice.” These were the last words of four-year-old Satyajit Chakma. Hearing this, his mother, Suresh Bala Tanchangya, left him on the balcony and went to the kitchen to fetch food. Two minutes later, she returned to find her son missing. The incident occurred in Bandarban’s Sinyarpara area on Tuesday around 11:00 AM. Two days later, on Thursday morning at around 8:00 AM, the child’s body was recovered from Reicha Canal, approximately one and a half kilometers from his home near Reicha Bazar. According to locals, continuous rainfall in Bandarban has caused streams and waterfalls to become turbulent. There is a stream near the home of Satyajit’s father, Samiran Chakma, in Sinyarpara. Samiran believes his son may have gone to play by the stream and was swept away by the current. Samiran Chakma told that he was at work on the day of the incident, while his wife and son were at home. It had been raining continuously since morning. His son complained of hunger, and his wife left him on the balcony to get food from the kitchen. When she returned, the boy was gone. Mahmud Parvez, Officer-in-Charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station, said the child’s body was recovered from a canal near Reicha Bazar. The family has applied to the Additional District Magistrate for permission to bury the body without an autopsy.
