At Hazrat Bibi Khadija Hall of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), female students expressed intense anger and concern following a room inspection involving male staff members. The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Allegations have surfaced that without prior notice or warning, several male staff members, alongside female staff, entered the female dormitory and conducted room searches. This has raised serious questions about the privacy and safety of the female students.
Multiple students residing in the hall reported being caught off guard during the incident. One student stated, “We didn’t even understand what was happening. Suddenly, some male staff entered our floor. I didn’t even get a chance to cover myself with a scarf. It was an extremely embarrassing and frightening experience.”
Another student, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “I was sleeping at the time. Without any knock or warning, a female staff member along with two male staff entered our room. How is this justified?”
Expressing her frustration, another student remarked, “During the search, it wasn’t just the female staff; dining staff, office boys, and even a few male teachers entered our rooms. I personally try to observe purdah. This was utterly uncivilized behavior.”
Addressing the issue, the hall’s provost, Professor Dr. Abdul Qayyum Masud, stated, “There is no scope for male staff to enter female students’ rooms during inspections. Male staff are only present alongside female staff. I haven’t received any complaints about this matter. I was present during today’s inspection. I will investigate the matter tomorrow and take necessary steps to caution the involved staff.”
