Dhaka, July 19, 2025: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s national gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital began with a recitation of the Quran, focusing on seven key demands, including the adoption of a proportional representation (PR) system in national elections, visible justice for the July massacres, and ensuring a level playing field before elections.
The event officially started at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, with the recitation of the Quran. Earlier, the first phase of the gathering commenced at 9:40 AM with a cultural program hosted by Saifullah Mansur and organized by the Saimum Shilpi Goshti.
A massive crowd of Jamaat leaders, activists, and supporters filled Suhrawardy Udyan well before the event began, with thousands more gathering outside the venue. Many attendees were seen holding the party’s symbol, the scale, while others wore T-shirts and panjabis adorned with the party’s logo.
The seven demands raised at the gathering include ensuring a level playing field for free, fair, and peaceful elections, justice for all mass killings, implementing necessary fundamental reforms, fulfilling the July Charter and Declaration, rehabilitating the families of martyrs and those injured in the July uprising, adopting a proportional representation (PR) system for national elections, and securing voting rights for over one crore expatriate voters.
