Court of Inquiry Formed to Investigate Army Officer’s Alleged Political Involvement

The Bangladesh Army has initiated an investigation into allegations of political involvement against one of its officers, with a court of inquiry already established to probe the matter. The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate announced this in a press release on Friday (August 1).

According to ISPR, the allegations surfaced recently through a law enforcement agency, accusing the officer of engaging in political activities. The matter was treated with utmost priority, and immediate action was taken. On July 17, the officer was detained from their residence in Dhaka’s Uttara area and taken into military custody.

A court of inquiry has been constituted to ensure a fair and impartial investigation. Preliminary findings have substantiated the allegations, and upon completion of the full investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the officer in accordance with existing military laws and regulations. ISPR also noted that necessary coordination with the Bangladesh Police and other law enforcement agencies is underway. Additionally, a separate court of inquiry has been formed to investigate the officer’s unauthorized absence from their workplace, with further action to be determined under military law upon conclusion of the probe. The press release emphasized that the Bangladesh Army is a non-political, disciplined, and professional institution with no tolerance for political involvement. Any military personnel found engaging in political activities will face strict action under army regulations. The Bangladesh Army remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and its constitutional responsibilities.
