Four Bodies, Including Woman and Child, Recovered from Buriganga River

Police have recovered the bodies of four individuals, including a woman and a child, from the Buriganga River in Dhaka. The bodies have been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The recoveries were made on Saturday (August 23) around 7:30 PM from different locations along the river, confirmed Md. Sohag Rana, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadarghat Naval Police Outpost. He stated that the deceased include a three-year-old boy, two women, and one man, whose identities remain unknown. The first body, that of a 30-year-old woman, was found floating near Mirerbag Cold Storage in Keraniganj. She had a black burqa wrapped around her neck and was wearing a pink salwar-kameez. An hour later, the body of a three-year-old boy, also wrapped in a scarf, was recovered from the same location. Sub-Inspector Md. Moktar Hossain, in-charge of Barishur Naval Police Outpost in Keraniganj, reported that around 7:30 PM, the bodies of a 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were recovered near Madaripur Jame Mosque in Jinjira Union, Keraniganj. The man was wearing black pants and a checkered shirt, while the woman was dressed in a gray tank top and red salwar. Minor injury marks were observed on their bodies. Syed Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of South Keraniganj Police Station, confirmed that the bodies of a mother and her son were recovered near Mirerbag Cold Storage, while another woman and a man were found near Madaripur Jame Mosque in Jinjira Union. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and the identities of the deceased.
