Israel Has Been Implementing Plan to Occupy Gaza Since March, Says Expert

Since March, Israel has been actively implementing a plan to fully occupy Gaza, according to Sultan Barakat, a senior professor in the Public Policy Department at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar.

In an interview with Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera, Barakat stated that several factors have facilitated this plan. These include cutting off international aid to Palestinians, establishing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation with four specific objectives, and consolidating control over targeted areas.

Barakat further noted that a "new and dangerous phase" was announced following a visit by U.S. Ambassador Steve Witkoff to Israel. "We can assume he approved the plan, and the United States is supporting it," he said. He also suggested that Israel may be rushing to conclude the conflict in Gaza. "Netanyahu wants to complete this by September because many countries are threatening to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly," Barakat added.
