Mohammadpur’s Controversial OC Ifthekhar Transferred

The controversial Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, Ali Ifthekhar Hasan, along with two other officers of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has been transferred.

On Sunday (August 24), an office order signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Sajjat Ali directed the transfers. Ali Ifthekhar Hasan, OC of Mohammadpur Police Station, has been reassigned to the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP. OC Kazi Md. Rafiq Ahmed from Shah Ali Police Station has been transferred to Mohammadpur Police Station, while Inspector Mohammad Golam Azam from DMP’s Transport Division has been moved to Shah Ali Police Station.

**Allegations Against OC Ifthekhar** OC Ifthekhar faced accusations of suppressing a drug-related case involving Tk 10 lakh, which was reported in the media. Despite local residents holding a human chain protest in front of the police station, a counter-human chain was later organized in his favor, allegedly involving drug dealers and members of juvenile gangs from Geneva Camp. Following media reports, Ifthekhar reportedly used his influence to have Mohammadpur Police Station’s Inspector (Investigation) Hafizur Rahman attached to DMP and later posted to Rangpur.

Additionally, in a recent clash between drug dealers in Geneva Camp, a youth named Shah Alam was killed, leading to allegations of case manipulation against Ifthekhar. In another incident, a joint operation recovered Tk 1.13 crore and sharp weapons, including cocktails, from the residence of Bunia Sohel. However, Sohel was not named as an accused in the case, while a person named Picchi Raja was charged instead. These allegations fueled demands from locals for Ifthekhar’s removal.
