A 15-year-old Swiss girl was raped by an Indian businessman seated next to her during a nine-hour Swiss Airlines flight from Mumbai to Zurich. The incident occurred in March this year when the teenager fell asleep during the flight.
The businessman confessed to the crime in court. However, a Swiss court sentenced him to only 18 months in prison and imposed a fine. Having already served a portion of his sentence, he was not detained further and was deported to India.
The lenient verdict has sparked widespread criticism, with many demanding harsher punishment for such a heinous crime.
**What Happened on the Flight**
According to Business Times, the Swiss teenager and the Indian businessman were seated next to each other and engaged in some conversation. When the girl fell asleep, the businessman touched her inappropriately and eventually raped her. The teenager was left speechless and unable to react during the assault.
Gathering courage, she later informed the cabin crew about the incident. The crew promptly relocated her to another seat and kept the man under surveillance for the remainder of the flight. Upon landing at Zurich Airport, he was arrested.
In court, the perpetrator admitted he committed the act because he “could not control himself.” The court banned him from entering Switzerland for five years and ordered him to stay away from any activities involving minors.
