Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat Holds Mass Procession, Country Freed from Fascism through Mass Uprising, Now It’s Time to Eradicate Corruption”: Fakhrul Islam

We want to see the true realization of the aspirations of the July-August mass uprising as outlined in the July Charter. On Tuesday (August 5), a mass procession was organized by Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami to mark the first anniversary of the July-August 2024 student-people’s mass uprising. Speaking at the pre-procession rally and a brief gathering after the procession, Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, Central Working Council Member of Jamaat-e-Islami and Sylhet Metropolitan Amir, said, “Through the July-August 2024 mass uprising, the country has been freed from fascism. However, extortion, looting, murder, and violence have not yet stopped. The families of the martyrs and those injured during the uprising are yet to be rehabilitated. Jamaat is working to build a humane nation free from terrorism and corruption. Our respected Jamaat Amir has declared that the country has been liberated from fascism through the student-people’s movement. Now, we must triumph in the battle against corruption.”


The rally began at the Registry Field and concluded at the Chowhatta Point after circling key areas of the city. Thousands of activists from the metropolitan area and various thanas, wards, and units participated in the procession. Fakhrul Islam further stated, “We want to see the true implementation of the aspirations of the July-August mass uprising as outlined in the July Charter. Ensuring justice, reforms, the July Charter, rehabilitating the families of martyrs and the injured, and building a humane Bangladesh based on justice free from corruption should be the pledge of the Mass Uprising Day.” The event was moderated by Jahedur Rahman Chowdhury, Assistant Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat. Other speakers included Maulana Habib ur Rahman, Central Majlis-e-Shura Member and Sylhet District Amir; Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, Sylhet Metropolitan Naib-e-Amir; Shaheen Ahmed, President of Sylhet Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir; Maulana Islam Uddin, Assistant Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat; Saifullah Al Hossain, former Chairman of Fenchuganj Upazila and Sylhet District Jamaat leader; Advocate Jamil Ahmed Raju, President of Sylhet Metropolitan Labor Welfare Federation; Mufti Ali Haider, Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Baitul Mal; Tarek Monowar, President of Shahjalal University Chhatra Shibir; Shameem Ahmed, Amir of Shahparan West Thana of Sylhet Metropolitan; Advocate Alim Uddin, President of Bangladesh Lawyers Council, Sylhet; Muhammad Azizul Islam, Amir of Kotwali West Thana; Rafiqul Islam, Amir of Kotwali East Thana; Qari Alauddin, Amir of Jalalabad Thana; Shafiqul Alam Mofiq, Amir of Airport Thana; Nazir Uddin, Amir of Sylhet Sadar Upazila; and Abdullah Al Mahmud, Amir of Professionals Thana, among others.
