The National Citizen Party (NCP) has put forward a proposal advocating for a cabinet-governed system instead of a prime minister-led government. Alongside this, the party has called for a nationwide referendum to amend the constitution.
Following a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Saturday (April 19), the NCP shared its policy suggestions with journalists.
Among the key proposals, the NCP suggested that the President and Prime Minister should not be elected more than twice, and that the presidential election should be conducted through an electoral college system. The party's Convener, Nahid Islam, emphasized the importance of constitutional and electoral reforms.
Additionally, he stated that the NCP has reached consensus on 129 out of 166 issues discussed with the commission. The party also underscored the need for rewriting the constitution, ensuring peaceful power transitions, and prioritizing citizen security in governance.
Nahid Islam highlighted that the NCP seeks extensive amendments to Article 70, focusing on allowing MPs to vote independently outside their party line, improving parliamentary stability, and guaranteeing greater autonomy for lelelegislator.
