A 23-year-old housewife, Hasi Khatun, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, Zakaria Hossain, in Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur upazila for opposing his extramarital affair. The incident occurred in the Sadatail Sarkerpara area of Kayempur Union, and the accused husband has been absconding since the incident. Police recovered the victim’s body from her husband’s residence around 11 AM on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Hasi Khatun, daughter of Abu Saeed Fakir from Satbaria village in Ullapara upazila’s Panchkroshi Union, was married to Zakaria three years ago in a family-arranged marriage. The couple has a young son. According to family members and neighbors, Zakaria had recently developed a relationship with another woman in the neighborhood, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. The family alleges that Hasi was killed by strangulation during one such altercation late at night.
Hasi’s sister, Khushi Khatun, stated, “Initially, we were told Hasi died of a stroke. However, upon seeing her body, there were clear marks of injury on her neck.” She informed the police, who then recovered the body.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahjadpur Police Station, Aslam Ali, confirmed that the body was sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. “Legal action is underway, and we are waiting for the autopsy report to proceed further,” he added
