Model Sanai Mahbub Files Case Against Husband for Dowry and Attempt to Force Her into Prostitution

Dhaka, August 6, 2025: Renowned model Suprava Mahbub, known as Sanai Mahbub, has filed a case against her husband, Abu Saleh Musa, under the Dowry Prohibition Act. The allegations include demanding dowry and attempting to force Sanai into prostitution when the dowry demands were not met.

The case was filed on Wednesday, August 6, in Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman recorded the plaintiff’s statement and issued a summons for the accused to appear in court.

Sanai Mahbub’s lawyer, Mithun Saha, stated that the case was filed over a dowry demand of BDT 22 lakh. According to the case details, Sanai and Abu Saleh Musa were married on May 27, 2022. During the marriage, Sanai’s family provided various furniture and 15 bhori of gold, which remain in the accused’s possession. The allegations state that Abu Saleh Musa, claiming to pursue business alongside his job, pressured Sanai to bring money from her family. Sanai provided BDT 12 lakh from her savings and an additional BDT 7 lakh from her father, totaling BDT 19 lakh. However, Musa allegedly squandered the money. He then attempted to force Sanai into prostitution to repay his personal debts and demanded an additional BDT 22 lakh as dowry. When Sanai refused to comply, Musa allegedly subjected her to physical and mental abuse. On September 15, 2024, he reportedly assaulted her and left their home, stating he would not continue the marriage unless the BDT 22 lakh dowry was paid. He also threatened to remarry elsewhere with a large sum of money. The case further details that on May 12, 2025, Musa visited Sanai’s residence in Aftabnagar and reiterated his demand for BDT 22 lakh. When refused, he left the house in anger, again threatening to end the marriage and remarry. Sanai’s family attempted to mediate, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Sanai sent legal notices to Musa on July 7 and July 22, 2025, urging him to reconcile. Musa responded to the July 7 notice on July 17, dismissing it as false, fabricated, and defamatory.
