Several Indian media outlets and social media platforms reported alleged cross-border firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch region of Kashmir, claiming that Pakistan violated a ceasefire agreement. The LoC divides the disputed Kashmir region between India and Pakistan.
However, the Indian Army issued a statement on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) denying these reports, clarifying that no ceasefire violation occurred along the LoC.
Prior to the Army’s clarification, media outlets such as Hindustan Times and PTI, citing official sources, reported that Pakistan initiated unprovoked firing in the Krishnaghati sector of Poonch district in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army reportedly retaliated, with an exchange of fire lasting approximately 15 minutes. No casualties were reported during the alleged incident.
In its official statement, the Indian Army said, “Certain media and social media reports have claimed ceasefire violations in the Poonch region. The Indian Army clarifies that no ceasefire violation has occurred along the Line of Control. Please refrain from spreading unverified information.”
Reuters reached out to the Pakistan Army for comment, but they declined to respond.
Tensions between the two nations escalated in May 2025 following the killing of 26 Indian tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, in April. The four-day conflict resulted in significant casualties and damage on both sides. A U.S.-mediated ceasefire agreement was subsequently reached, which both countries agreed to uphold.
