Kishoreganj Court Sentences Father and Two Family Members to Death for Daughter’s Murder to Frame Rivals

In a shocking case in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj, a court has sentenced three members of the same family, including the father, to death for killing his daughter to frame their rivals. Each convict has also been fined Tk 50,000. The verdict was announced on Wednesday afternoon by Kishoreganj’s Senior District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Nurul Amin.

The convicted individuals are Anwarul Islam Angur (73), his brother Khurshid Miya (52), and nephew Sadek Miya (36), all residents of Bhatiya Jahirkona village in Karimganj Upazila’s Kiraton Union. The accused were not present in court during the verdict.

According to case details, Anwarul Islam had a longstanding dispute over land with Abu Bakar Siddique and others in the same area. To frame his rivals, on August 10, 2016, Anwarul, along with his brother and nephew, stabbed his daughter, Meera Akter, to death and left her body in a jungle behind their house. The next day, Anwarul filed a murder case at Karimganj Police Station, naming Abu Bakar and 16 others as accused. However, police investigations revealed evidence of Anwarul and his relatives’ involvement in the murder. On September 3, 2017, a final report was submitted to the court, stating that the 16 individuals initially accused were not involved. On the same day, Sub-Inspector Alok Kumar Datta of Karimganj Police Station filed a new murder case against Anwarul Islam, his brother Khurshid Miya, nephew Sadek Miya, and Anwarul’s wife, Mosa. Nazmunnahar. On February 7, 2018, police submitted a charge sheet against the four accused.
Kishoreganj’s Public Prosecutor Jalal Uddin stated that the sensational case resulted in the death penalty and fines for the three family members. However, the charges against Nazmunnahar, the victim’s mother, were not proven, and she was acquitted. All three convicted individuals, who were out on bail, are currently absconding.
