India Expels Pakistani Diplomats After Kashmir Attack

International: Following the deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir, the Indian government has taken strict diplomatic measures against Pakistan. The attack on April 23 left 26 people dead, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. 

In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), where five major actions were announced against Pakistan.  

India’s Actions Against Pakistan:  Expulsion of Pakistani Diplomats: Senior Pakistani diplomat Saad Ahmed Waraich was summoned in New Delhi and ordered to leave India immediately.  

Declaration of Persona Non Grata: Pakistan’s defense, naval, and air advisors were declared persona non grata and given one week to leave India.

Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty: India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan ceases cross-border terrorism.  

Closure of Attari-Wagah Border: Pakistani nationals with valid documents must return by May 1. Cancellation of SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme: All Pakistani nationals under this scheme must leave India within 48 hours.  

According to ANI the attack was claimed by The Resistance Front’ a militant group. Meanwhile, Indian security forces have launched a large-scale operation to track down the perpetrators.  

India has also reduced Pakistan’s diplomatic presence in New Delhi,, cutting the number of officials from 55 to 30.  

The situation remains tense, with India’s military on high alert as diplomatic relations between the two nations continue to deteriorate.
