A newlywed couple, Masum Mia (23) and Iti (20), lost their lives in a tragic accident in Dhaka’s Uttara East Thana area after being struck by a Tongi-bound train while taking a selfie on a railway track.
The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 26, when the couple was walking along the railway line near Sector 8’s railway crossing in Uttara. According to a witness named Shubho, who brought Masum Mia to the hospital, the couple was taking selfies when two trains—one heading toward Dhaka and another toward Tongi—passed simultaneously around 6:15 PM. The Tongi-bound train struck the couple, killing Iti instantly at the scene. Masum Mia, severely injured, was first taken to Kuwait Maitree Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Mohammad Ali, Sub-Inspector and In-Charge of the Airport Police Outpost, confirmed that the couple was hit by the Tongi-bound train while taking a selfie. The body of the bride, Iti, is being handed over to her family, while arrangements for Masum Mia’s body will be made after his family arrives and legal formalities are completed.
The couple had recently married against their families’ wishes after being in a relationship. Masum Mia hailed from Netrokona, while Iti was from Mymensingh. They had moved to Dhaka after their marriage and were living in a rented house in the Dakshin Khan Thana area.
