Gazipur, May 5, 2025: A case of attempted murder has been filed at Basan Thana under Gazipur Metropolitan Police following an attack on the vehicle of Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the southern region. The incident occurred on Sunday in Gazipur’s Salna area.
On Monday, May 5, at around 7:30 PM, Khondokar Al-Amin, NCP’s Gazipur metropolitan representative, lodged the case as the plaintiff. The First Information Report (FIR) names 100 individuals and includes several unidentified persons.
According to Khondokar Al-Amin, police operations have been ongoing across various parts of Gazipur since the attack. He urged authorities to ensure that innocent or helpless individuals are not detained during these operations, though he refrained from disclosing specific details about the arrests.
Police have so far detained at least 54 suspects in connection with the attack, with operations starting on Sunday. Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Additional Commissioner (Administration), Zahid Hasan, confirmed that the detained individuals’ information has been verified, leading to the filing of the case. Special operations to apprehend others involved in the incident are still underway.
The attack took place on Sunday when Hasnat Abdullah was returning to Dhaka after attending an event in Gazipur’s Salna Agricultural University area. While stuck in traffic at the Chandna Chowrasta area, four to five motorcycles approached his vehicle, and assailants attacked it, shattering the vehicle’s glass. Hasnat sustained injuries during the assault and was later escorted to Dhaka under police protection
