Fire in Turkish Airlines Engine After Takeoff from Shahjalal, Safe Emergency Landing

Dhaka, May 20, 2025 : A Turkish Airlines flight experienced a fire in one of its engines shortly after taking off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The pilot promptly decided to make an emergency landing, ensuring the safety of all 290 passengers on board.

The incident occurred around 7:00 AM on Tuesday (May 20), as confirmed by the Shahjalal International Airport authorities. Flight TK713, bound for Istanbul, Turkey, took off at approximately 7:00 AM. Within 15 minutes, the pilot noticed sparks in one of the engines and decided to return to the airport. After circling in the air for about one and a half hours to burn off fuel, the aircraft safely landed at 8:15 AM.
Airport sources reported that all passengers were safely evacuated and transferred to a hotel. The airline authorities are making alternative arrangements for the passengers’ travel.
Notably, a similar incident occurred on May 16, when a Bangladesh Biman flight from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka lost a wheel from its left landing gear. Thanks to the pilot’s skill, the flight, carrying 71 passengers including children, landed safely.
