Dhaka, May 20, 2025: A hearing on a writ petition seeking to prevent BNP leader Ishraq Hossain from taking oath as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is set to take place today at noon.
The hearing will be held at the High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.
Earlier, on Wednesday, a writ petition was filed in the High Court requesting an injunction to stop Ishraq Hossain from taking the oath as DSCC mayor. The petition also sought punitive action against the first joint district judge and election tribunal judge of Dhaka, who declared Ishraq Hossain as the mayor.
The writ was filed by Md. Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Dhaka South City Corporation. On March 27, the court annulled the 2020 DSCC election result declaring Fazle Noor Taposh as the winner and instead announced BNP leader Ishraq Hossain as the mayor. Subsequently, on April 27, the Election Commission published a gazette declaring Ishraq Hossain as the new mayor of DSCC.
