BSF Pushes 11 Bangladeshis Across Border, BGB Detains Them in Panchagarh

 

Panchagarh, 17 May 2025 : The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 11 individuals, including women and a child, who were pushed into Bangladesh by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) through the border areas of Boda Upazila in Panchagarh. 

The push-in incidents occurred from Friday night (16 May) to Saturday noon (17 May) in the Malkadanga area of Barshashi Union and Danakata area of Kajaldighi Kaliaganj Union.

The acting commander of Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion, Riyad Morshed, confirmed the incident on Saturday afternoon. The detainees are Taslima Khatun (40) from Satkhira’s Kaliganj, Marjina (40) from Kolaroa, Nirufa Begum (40) from Narail’s Kalia, Sajida Khatun (40) from Jashore’s Sharsha, Zahidul Islam (40) and Faizan Sheikh (10) from Faridpur’s Sadarpur, Omar Faruk (37) from Noakhali’s Shyambag, Mim Akter (22) and Shahnaz (34) from Narayanganj, Tania (35) from Narsingdi, and Alea (70) from Khulna’s Terokhada.
According to BGB sources, the detainees had been living and working illegally in India for a long time. On 2 May, Indian police arrested them in Bombay. After being held in custody until 17 May, 125 Bangladeshis, including these 11, were transported to Siliguri Airport. Subsequently, the BSF pushed these 11 individuals across the Panchagarh border into Bangladesh. Local residents spotted them roaming in the border area and informed the BGB, leading to their detention.
Following interrogation at the BGB camp, the detainees were handed over to Boda Police Station. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boda Police Station, Azim Uddin, confirmed the detention of the 11 individuals, including eight women and one child, and stated that legal proceedings are underway.
