Dhaka, May 24, 2025 – Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud has dismissed speculations about the resignation of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, affirming that the latter is not stepping down. “The Chief Adviser is not leaving. He has not said he will leave. He is definitely staying. We have a significant responsibility entrusted to us, and we cannot abandon it,” Dr. Mahmud stated.
The remarks came following a meeting of the Advisory Council held at the NEC conference room on Saturday. The meeting, which began around 12:20 PM and concluded at approximately 2:20 PM, was preceded by a session of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). The advisory meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, saw the attendance of 19 advisers.
Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan left the meeting shortly after 2:00 PM due to urgent commitments. When questioned by journalists, she revealed that discussions in the meeting centered around elections, reforms, and the July declaration. She added that a press briefing would follow the meeting but refrained from commenting on the Chief Adviser’s resignation rumors at the time.
Later, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain and Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiya were seen leaving the meeting.
Earlier in the day, an ECNEC meeting commenced at 11:00 AM in the same venue and concluded around 12:15 PM, approving nine projects.
