Dhaka, 30 May, 2025 : Postal Department’s mobile financial service provider, Nagad, has been instructed to publish a detailed report in the media regarding all irregularities over the past three months.
Additionally, the newly appointed acting CEO, Abu Taleb, has been directed to reinstate terminated and transferred officials to their original positions. This information was shared by Foyez Taiyyab Ahmed, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, in a Facebook post on Friday, May 30, 2025.
According to Foyez Taiyyab, on May 27, Nagad handed over its operational control to the Postal Department, its primary license holder, following significant instability. The unrest began after a stay order was issued against the administrator appointed by Bangladesh Bank. Taking advantage of the situation, an individual named Shafayet, claiming to be the CEO, initiated terminations and transfers, destabilizing the organization. The Postal Department then assumed control and took steps to arrest Shafayet, who is an accused in a Bangladesh Bank case. However, he fled before a CID operation.
Subsequently, the Postal Department appointed Shyamal Das as acting CEO, but instability persisted, leading to Abu Taleb’s appointment as the new acting CEO. Taleb has been instructed to prepare an account of the past three months’ expenses, publish a detailed report on irregularities, reinstate terminated and transferred officials, ensure salary and bonus payments before Eid, and upgrade features and software that have been stalled for nearly four years.
Furthermore, last week, the Finance Adviser, the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and the Special Assistant to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology reached a consensus to form a new board for Nagad, comprising prominent experts
