The arrested individuals are Yusuf (26), Siam (23), and Jahurul (22).
On Friday (July 25), Tejgaon Zone Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Ibne Mizan confirmed the matter. He stated, "We noticed a Facebook post by the journalist regarding the robbery, and several media outlets also published reports about it. Following this, we conducted an operation, recovered the stolen mobile phone, and arrested the three suspected robbers."
The police official also mentioned that four police officers have been suspended in connection with this incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday (July 24) around 11 PM at Mohammadpur Beribadh’s three-road intersection. The victim immediately reported the robbery to Mohammadpur Police Station but alleged that he faced harassment there as well.
According to the victim, Mohammadpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Iftekhar Hasan told him, "I’m an OC and still use a cheap phone; if you roam around with an expensive phone, it’s bound to get stolen!" Additionally, SI Jasim expressed reluctance to visit the crime scene, saying, "Do you think the robbers are sitting there waiting? Don’t you have any common sense?"
Later, the victim journalist shared details of the incident on social media through a Facebook post, which went viral. Netizens expressed outrage over the police's behavior.
