BNP Leader Files 10 Crore Taka Defamation Lawsuit Against Sarjis Alam

In Gazipur, a BNP leader has filed a defamation lawsuit against Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen’s Party (NCP) for the northern region, seeking 10 crore taka in damages.

The lawsuit accuses Sarjis Alam of spreading false propaganda by linking the BNP to the murder of journalist Tuhin.

On Tuesday (August 12), Tanvir Siraj, president of the Basan Thana BNP, filed the application before the bench of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Al Mamun at Gazipur’s Court 2. Gazipur court lawyer Siddiqur Rahman informed the media that the court has accepted the case and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate. In the lawsuit application, Tanvir Siraj stated, “Journalist Tuhin was brutally murdered for recording a video of a criminal gang. However, Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer (northern region) of NCP, without verifying the facts, spread propaganda on Facebook linking the BNP to this incident, damaging the party’s reputation.” He added, “The Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner has already uncovered the truth behind this murder, stating there is no evidence of political involvement. Following the party’s instructions, I have filed this case as the plaintiff, and I hope for justice.” On August 7, Sarjis Alam posted on his verified Facebook account: “In Gazipur, BNP workers beat a journalist named Anwar with bricks for reporting on a BNP leader’s extortion. At night, journalist Tuhin from Dainik Protidin was brutally murdered by extortionist terrorists at a tea stall in Gazipur’s Chowrasta! Anwar and Tuhin were friends.” The next morning, he edited the post, replacing the word “extortionist” with “snatcher.”
