Cox’s Bazar, May 2, 2025 : The Arakan Army (AA), an armed group in Myanmar, has released four Bangladeshi fishermen who were detained from the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The fishermen returned to their camp in Jadimura, Hnila, via the Naf River border around 6:30 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025.
The fishermen were detained by the Arakan Army on Thursday from the Damdamia area of the Naf River while fishing. The released fishermen have been identified as Arafat Ullah (21), Anis Ullah (22), Md. Jaber (14), and Anwar Sadek (27), all residents of Jadimura 27 Camp in Teknaf.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsanul Haque confirmed the release, stating, “The four fishermen detained from the Naf River have been freed by the Arakan Army. They have returned home safely, and we have advised them to avoid crossing Bangladesh’s territorial waters.”
Mohammad Nur, a majhi (leader) of Jadimura 27 Camp, also confirmed that the fishermen returned in good health. Authorities have reiterated warnings to fishermen to stay within Bangladesh’s maritime boundaries to avoid such incidents.
